Alex VanDyne

Founder, Motion Designer & Developer

I created Bookr to manage the constant shuffle of holds, bookings, and invoices — designed from the ground up for visual people like me who need clarity, not clutter.

The Story

I've been working as a motion designer and freelancer for years. Like many of you, I've dealt with the frustrating "hold game" more times than I can count.

You know how it goes: A client wants to place you on hold for a project. You say yes. Then another client reaches out for the same dates. You tell them you're on hold but might be available. Meanwhile, the first client takes forever to decide, and by the time they release you, the second opportunity is gone.

Everyone loses. Freelancers lose income because they're kept in the dark. Clients lose talent because they don't know they're competing with other holds. The whole system runs on confusion and last-minute scrambling.

Why I Built This

After years of juggling spreadsheets, email threads, and mental math about which holds to prioritize, I decided to just build the tool I wished existed.

Bookr is designed to solve three specific problems:

  1. Transparent hold ranking: Everyone knows where they stand. No more guessing if you're 1st hold or 5th hold.
  2. Fast invoicing & payment tracking: Stop spending hours creating invoices and chasing late payments. Turn bookings into invoices with one click.
  3. Privacy-first: Your client list, rates, and bookings are yours. No surveillance. No data selling. You control what's visible.

How It's Built

This is a solo, bootstrapped project. I code it, design it, maintain it, and support it. There are no investors pushing for aggressive growth. No board meetings deciding your data is the product.

The tech stack is modern and reliable: Next.js, TypeScript, Supabase, and Vercel. I chose tools that prioritize speed, security, and developer experience so I can iterate quickly and keep the platform stable.

The Business Model

Right now, the beta is completely free. No fees, no charges. I want to make sure Bookr actually solves real problems before asking anyone to pay for it.

Once we implement monetization, here's the plan:

Free Plan (Default)

All core features are free. When a booking is confirmed, there's an optional 0.5% booking fee— split fairly between the client (0.25%) and freelancer (0.25%).

Example: On a $10,000 booking, that's $25 from the client and $25 from the freelancer. Small enough to be fair, and only charged if you find Bookr useful.

Premium Plan

$15/month or $120/year (save $60)

Get unlimited bookings with zero transaction fees, plus priority support, advanced analytics, custom branding, and early access to new features.

I won't force anyone to pay. If you find Bookr useful and the 0.5% fee feels fair, I appreciate the support. If you'd rather pay monthly for unlimited access, that's great too. My goal is to keep this sustainable without resorting to ads or selling data.

Honest pricing. No hidden fees. No tricks. You'll always know exactly what you're paying and why.

Questions or Feedback?

I'm building this for the community, so your input matters. If you have ideas, run into bugs, or just want to chat about the platform, email me directly at alex@bookr.dev.

I read every email. I won't always have immediate answers, but I'll always respond honestly.

My Commitment to Transparency

Your data is yours. Export it anytime. Delete your account anytime. No lock-in.

No shady practices. No selling your data. No dark patterns. No surprise fees.

Open communication. Questions? Email me. I'll respond. No support ticket black holes.

Community-driven. Feature requests come from users, not investors pushing growth metrics.
